Horses / Pleasure, Work or Competition

General senses is the horse business is tough and it's hard to sell horses. Truth of the matter is it's hard to find good horses and when we do find them we should be prepared to pay dearly for them. Buying a horse is a little bit like buying real estate. Sometimes what looks cheap turns out to be very expensive and what looks expensive sometimes turns out to provide us the hassle free use we are looking for be it pleasure or work.

Often we have people who look at undeveloped, partly developed  or run down properties and feel they can create what they need cheaper than purchasing the finished product. Unless you are an experienced  developer, in most cases the cost and frustration is more than they bargained for. The same holds true with people purchasing a horse. Far to often people are looking and buying the wrong product because of the price. Leave the training to the professionals and buy the finished product so you can get out and enjoy or work with your purchase.

In northern B.C. we are avid horse enthusiasts. We have guide outfitters, ranchers, farmers and loggers who use horses seasonally and year round to assist in their operations. For recreation our area has at our doorstep thousands of miles of trails through some of the most spectacular wilderness back country in all of North America. Many of these trails are historic pioneer trails through mountain valleys used by early day trappers, prospectors and explorers running from the north coast inlets to the high mountain lakes. Most of them are kept open by forestry workers, guide outfitters and wildlife migration. Most of the towns along the Hwy 16 (Yellowhead Highway) a verity of horse discipline groups. Prince George (B.C.'s Northern capital) has a strong reining and working cow horse club and holds one of the larges reining shows in B.C. each year. Vanderhoof has a strong team roping group with tough competition. Burns Lake is known for their aggressive team penning groups. Houston has seen some real competitive barrel racers develop and compete province wide. Smithers, Hazelton and Terrace have pretty all round type horse owners and is holding a reining and working cow horse clinic this weekend and has their 3 in 1 Breed Show coming up in July.

If your a horse enthusiast maybe Northern B.C. is the place to be. Contact me for a list of great horse properties from full fledged equestrian facilities to personal small acerage set ups at very affordable prices from Prince George to New Hazelton.
